MMH collabs on 2019 House of the Year Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Modern Home in Vail, Colo., Named Home of the Year in National Design Competition

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 23 — A single-family, modern mountain home in the Rockies was named Home of the Year in the 2019 Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The Home of the Year award was sponsored by Monogram Appliances.

The 10,063-foot Vail, Colo., structure was designed as a duplex, with both units featuring master suites, secondary bedrooms, laundry, kitchens, great rooms, dining, outdoor patios and roof decks. The units are separated by a 30-foot tall, 12-inch thick concrete demising wall.

The larger of the two units is nestled into the sloping hillside and features a partially subterranean bonus room and two bedrooms that look out on custom graffiti. The master suite of the larger unit was established as one of the signature pieces of the home, cantilevering 12 feet from the main structure and creating a covered loggia adjacent to the great room below. Its master bedroom reaches toward the hillside and immerses the owners into the seasons that define the Rockies.

“This home is jaw-dropping at every turn,” said the 2019 BALA judging panel. “From the cantilevers to the well-detailed glass box concept to the way the home nestles into the site, what’s not to love?”

The house was designed by Brandon Architects of Costa Mesa, Calif., and built by Meadow Mountain Homes of Vail. Ultra-Mod Design Concepts worked on the interior design elements, and Fieldscape Inc. completed the landscape design.

In its 36th year, BALA recognize outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, rental, affordable, interiors, remodeling, community and international. Award winners were announced at the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.
